Martwick Kicks off Summer Reading Program to Keep Students Engaged

Chicago – To encourage young people to continue learning during the summer, State Senator Robert Martwick is launching a Summer Reading Club for students on Chicago’s Northwest side.

“The love of reading when I was young helped me get to where I am today,” said Martwick (D- Chicago). “Even though the school year will soon be over, participating in this reading club will keep kids sharp and creative during their summer break.”

Students should fill out the brochure with the books they’ve read throughout the summer that they’ve checked out from their local library. Students from the library with the most entries will win a pizza party.  Senator Martwick’s office will also be dropping off brochures at local libraries. The deadline to mail or deliver completed brochures to Senator Martwick’s district office is August 11.

“We are fortunate to have amazing public libraries in our communities,” Martwick said. “This summer reading club will encourage families to take their kids to visit our public libraries in Chicago and in the Northwest suburbs and take advantage of the wonderful books they have to offer.”
