Martwick: Budget helps working families and promotes public safety

SpringfieldState Senator Robert Martwick (D-Chicago) released the following statement after the Senate vote on the Fiscal Year 2023 budget and tax relief plan:

“Rising above the devastation that the pandemic caused to our economy, I am proud to announce that we are providing $1.8 billion in tax relief for working families, thanks to our state’s ongoing economic improvements.”

“We are investing a record amount in our long term fiscal stability and making additional appropriations for pensions on top of those we made in legislation passed at the end of March to ensure that we are protecting both our taxpayers and our public employees.”

“Further, we are providing an additional $200 million on top of what the governor proposed to invest in the tools law enforcement needs to prevent and solve crimes and strengthen investments in programs that address the root causes of violence and crime.”
