SPRINGFIELD — In response to the Illinois Senate approving the Fiscal Year 2027 budget, State Senator Robert Martwick (D-Chicago) issued the following statement:
“I am pleased the Senate has once again passed a responsible and balanced budget. With this budget we continue on a path toward fiscal responsibility for the state, funding essential priorities that provide opportunities, educate our children and provide for those most in need, without raising taxes on people who are already struggling with rising inflation and the cost of living.
“This was completed despite the fact that the Trump administration is stripping away federal spending on services for those most in need in order to pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest.
“That being said, I believe that we could have and should have done more. I am disappointed that we didn’t pass tax reforms that would have raised the revenue we need to address our structural problems. The wealthiest in our country have been given tax break after tax break by the federal government. I believe there was room for more participation from those who benefited so much, to help provide solutions to our structural problems and provide more essential services for our neighborhoods, families and children.”
